UFC 97 Results Anderson Silva Defeats Thales Leites by Unanimous Decision: ‘Fighting to not lose instead of fighting to win’ would the best way that I can describe Anderson Silva’s last two performances in the Octagon, but especially last night’s.

Wait, perhaps ‘shameful’ would be another great adjective for one of the worse main events I’ve ever seen. An even better evaluation of UFC 97 main event would be UFC president Dana White’s: 'embarrassing'.

“I can honestly tell you that I’ve never put on an event that I was embarrassed to be at until tonight,” White said. “I want to publicly apologize to all the fans.”

In what would go down as one of the lamest performances of his career, “The Spider” captured his 9th consecutive victory by going the distance versus Leites and winning in ugly fashion by unanimous decision.

Yes, a clown act it’s what that was: Leites looked ridiculous, continuing to flop at the first sign of a punch being thrown in his direction, hoping to take the fight to the ground while Silva wouldn’t bite vs. the so-called “best pound-for-pound fighter in the world”, who’s so good he feels the need to toy with his opponents (i.e. kind of like when you play one-on-one basketball against your little brother, you let him score at will until it’s game-point, and then you turn it on and beat him) except there was never that ‘I’m so much better than you, I finish you whenever I feel like it’ moment everyone waited for.

Silva never really pressed the action and stayed on his feet. When his opponent would fall to the ground hoping to get Silva to fight on the ground, Silva would wait until Leites got back up. Back on the feet, Silva still never really pressed the action. For a fighter known to be the pound for pound best in his sport, he certainly wasn't fighting like one.

It was so bad, that Dana White got up from his cageside seat and walked over to Silva’s manager, Ed Soares, and gave him an earful right then and there. Silva though, was completely unaffected.

It was a boring fight seemed to drag on for ever. Didn't really seem like either guy came to fight. I don't always need to see a finish in a fight, but neither fighter was even trying so i was disapointed for sure.
